Cars collect and hold harmful chemicals from the road so air quality inside your cars is usually worse than air quality outside. The pollutants come from gasoline and diesel exhaust fumes and include volatile organic compounds (VOCs) carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter (PM). Opening or closing a car’s windows can reduce some pollutants while increasing others. Using the air conditioner, using recirculated air can filter out most particulate matter, but keeps in volatile organic compounds. Therefore providing simple and relevant information to car user on what to do to improve air quality is key for the comfort of the driver and passengers.




As for any closed environment, it has be shown that CO2 levels can rise quickly in a vehicle cabin especially if the recirculation mode is used. Those high levels of CO2 can have an impact on driver alertness and cause drowsiness. Controlling air quality in-cabin can help improve people safety.
